Are The Michigan Wolverines Really A Longshot For The College Football Playoff?

A longshot.

That’s all the experts are currently giving the Michigan Wolverines to make this year’s College Football Playoff. The weekly rankings came out on Tuesday evening and for many in the national media, the Wolverines remain an afterthought to make this year’s field of four.

Now, that’s certainly not a bold opinion. Michigan came in at No. 12 in the rankings and undeniably, doesn’t have a direct path to the championship rounds. The Wolverines are 8-2 on the season and actually need help to even make the Big Ten championship game. As such, it’s not hard to rationalize why many view Michigan’s Playoff odds as minimal.

But still, are the experts right? Does Michigan have just a longshot to make the field?

Michigan Offers Two Offensive Linemen

Per his twitter 2013 OL Kenny Lacy received an offer from Michigan today. He is currently committed to UCLA. According to the message board on ESPN he has also scheduled an official visit to Ann Arbor on December 14th. It happens to be the same weekend that some current commits will be there so could be something happening.

Another big time offensive linemen that the coaches extended an offer to this week was Cal Commit Cameron Hunt.  He's a 4-star linemen and another good prospect.  He has become great friends with current commit Kyle Bosch and looks to have some serious interest in Michigan.  He is looking to visit Michigan the weekend of the 7th of December so if he decides to pull the trigger could be interesting to see what happens with Kenny Lacy.

Both of these guys are very solid prospects and are concensus 4-stars according to all of the experts.  Coach Funk is very good at evaluating talent so if he offered these two its because he sees that these two guys are great fits for the class.  The coaching staff has put an emphasis on wanting another offensive linemen in the class because depth does seem to be a bit of an issue especially if Junior OT Taylor Lewan decides to delcare for the NFL Draft.  We will see how things pan out but I do believe that it could be a race to see who commits because in my opinion one of these two guys will end up in the 2013 recruiting class.  Keep your eyes peeled especially the second week in December.

Preview And Prediction: Michigan State

Beat State.

That's the simple slogan making it's way around social media as we near closer to the storied rivalry against Michigan State. And there isn't too much story behind it. The Spartans are at a four game winning streak against the Wolverines, and an upset Saturday in the Big House would give them a school record five straight.

That can't happen, can it?

Well, I guess it just depends on who decided to follow these simple keys to the game.

Michigan

The Wolverines are off to a great start in the Big Ten and, as coach Hoke put it, all of the team's goals are still in tact. Denard Robinson is doing what he wants at will. The defense has been shut down. It's all clicking at the right time.

2012 Early Big Ten Predictions

Read any sports mag, or sports site online and they always have mock rankings, drafts, etc...Well people--here is my first attempt at doing the same. Below you will find a 2012 version of how I believe our B1G Ten teams will finish, both conference wise and overall. Keep in mind I reserve all rights to my opinion, and the views expressed are mine and nobody else's. I will be doing a more in-depth analysis into each team every week from now till the beginning of the season. So let me give you a brief synopsis into the season.

Legends Division
IowaIowa Hawkeyes--(4-4 Big Ten, 8-4 overall) Kirk Ferentz always has his team ready to play every season. James Vandenburg has the potential to be a good QB, but the Legends Division seems to be pretty strong this year. Wins--NIU, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, CMU, Minn, MSU, PSU, Indiana.  Losses--Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan, Nebraska
