LB Kaleb Ringer, OL Chris Bryant Out For Season

The Wolverines now have to deal with two more significant injuries this fall. The school announced that Freshman Linebacker Kaleb Ringer, a three-star recruit out of Ohio, and Chris Bryant, a red shirt Freshman, both sustained season-ending injuries.

Ringer underwent season-ending knee surgery recently and is expected to make a full recovery. He will redshirt this season. Ringer was one of three 2012 recruits to arrive on campus early in January, but he was not expected to have a significant role for the Wolverines on defense. Although there probably would have been some playing time this year, he was not competing for a starting position with everyone in front of him on the depth chart healthy.
Still, this is a big hit for Ringer and the Wolverines. Any time on the field for a Freshman is valuable and he will now have to wait another year to get his chance on the Michigan defense.  He should be fine at a position that should be solid for Michigan in years to come, but it's not the type of thing you like to see happen to a player that could develop into a very good linebacker.

Chris Bryant fractured his tibia in practice and will take a full season to recover.  His injury is probably the more significant of the two. Bryant was considered to be the set backup at Guard this season, a position that was already dwindling. Now they take even more of a hit with the loss of Bryant.

2012 recruit Kyle Kalis is now even more likely to see the field this season as Michigan's small offensive line depth continues to become smaller.  Kalis would have probably beaten Bryant out regardless of the injury, but it is definitely not what fans wanted to see, especially since Bryant did have a chance at some serious playing time in 2013.

Michigan has now sustained five significant injuries since the start of fall camp. WR Roy Roundtree has knee surgery but will be back in time for the opener against Alabama. DT Ondre Pipkins injured his neck last Friday but was cleared to practice earlier this week without restrictions. And DE Chris Wormley tore his ACL and is not expected to return for this season.
