Treadwell has been dominating several recent camps and has remained as one of the nation's elite players. Michigan already has two wide receiver commitments in their 2013 class, Jaron Dukes and Csont'e York, and signed two wide receiver recruits in 2012, Jehu Chesson and Amara Darboh, but none of these recruits have matched Treadwell's rankings. Yes, they may certainly outperform Treadwell in college, but if you are just going off the rankings, Treadwell would easily be Michigan's most heralded recruit since the 2009 recruiting class and probably even beyond that.
Here are the basic listings for Treadwell:
Treadwell is one of those pleasant recruits that has been rated nearly identically by all the major recruiting services. Yes, there are a few outliers, such as Rival's weight for Treadwell and 247Sports national ranking of Treadwell, but for the most part, they're about identical. He's a gigantic receiver at 6'3" and although a little light, is relatively filled out for a wide receiver. Plus, he should put on a good chunk more of weight before college and with Michigan's wide receiver depth in 2013, might be considered for redshirt, although this is pretty tough to tell at this point.
Right now, I think Michigan is in great position to get a commitment from Treadwell. Not only do I think he's the most likely of Michigan's "major" remaining prospects for 2013 to commit to Michigan, but he also recently identified Michigan as his "leader". If you need something beyond that to convince you Michigan is in good shape at this point, I'm not sure what I can say. With the timing of the two recent announcements of his leader and decision timing, to me, he will end up in Ann Arbor.
One recruit never makes a recruiting class or a team, but to me, this may be one of the most important commitments of Michigan's 2013 class, if he chooses Michigan. Not only because it will give Michigan that elite prospect wide receiver, but it will truly change the depth and potential for Michigan's offense in a dynamic way. Michigan may have had four wide receiver commitments through the 2011-2013 classes so far, but when Treadwell arrives on campus, they will be pretty young and Michigan really won't have a ton of depth before them.
I mentioned a potential redshirt, but that's only going to occur if the 2012 recruits hit the ground running. This means if there's any concern about their abilities to run the offense on their own, there's no doubt Treadwell will play immediately, which I think he can do effectively. It's impossible to predict at this point, but I think he will play quite early. With Treadwell, this would give Michigan's 2013 class an elite offensive line, quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, and some solid running backs as well. This decision could be one of the major ones in the near future and really could set Michigan up for a great team in the near future.
Update: In an interview with Sam Webb, Laquon Treadwell signaled that he has pretty much made up his mind and now it's just about when he wants to announce it. To me, this is as clear as a sign as any that he is going to be coming to Michigan. The only school that he really hasn't visited yet is Oklahoma State and I don't think anybody believes they are seriously in the running at this point. This just makes me believe even more than he will be in Ann Arbor.

Treadwell is 76th on Scout not NR
ReplyDeleteTreadwell tweeted "Wonder who's going to be them quarterback of the team I'm on? Shane !" This seems like he's almost a lock for Michigan. The sooner he commits, the better show michigan has with him, so this earlier than expected potential commitment is defiantly benefitting Michigan's chances. I say almost a 90% chance he goes blue if he chooses in the next week or 2, and about a 45% chance if he waits until football season as expected
ReplyDeleteHe was referring to his 7-on-7 team at The Opening Camp this weekend.
ReplyDeleteEven if so, a player that excited to play with Shane Morris is a major plus
