Brown is a 2013 prospect and hasn't received a lot of attention from the major scouting services. Although he does have some decent ratings on some of the sites, for the most part he's not close to some of Michigan's more hyped 2013 recruits such as Derrick Walton and Mark Donnal. Despite this, Beilein has consistently went after some of the recruits that fall under the radar and I think that could be happening with Brown.

There is no doubt that Brown is not rated among the elite players in the nation and that a commitment from Brown probably wouldn't draw a lot of attention outside of Michigan. However, it's not as if he's a bad player. He's received attention from all kinds of schools including Illinois, Ohio, and Purdue. Along with this, he already has offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Kansas State. Those are not bad basketball teams or programs. He doesn't have the rankings right now, but if a player gets attention and offers from those schools, a 2* rating might not be 100% accurate in terms of his ability and potential, or at least not in my opinion.
At this point, it's a little hard to get a gauge on Brown's feelings toward Michigan and other schools. I certainly think Michigan is in pretty good shape since he is still visiting, despite not having an offer yet and his position with other schools, but his recruitment appears to be a long one. This gives me the feeling that there is a good amount of interest and the situation could change a good bit over the coming months. If he has a big day today, he might pick up a Michigan offer and things could really start to develop.
I won't say that Michigan is in "great" position to land him or is his "leader", but I definitely think there are some good signs. Having said that, until Michigan officially offers him and really gets the process going, I don't think that we'll see much development between the school and him anytime soon. To me, a lot just depends on the visit today, his reaction, and whether he gets an offer or not, but we will see what happens. If Michigan could get him to commit, I think there's a big chance their 2013 recruiting would be done, given that they would have five players already.
